Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Transportation Inventory Manager
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
BEGINNING DATE: Open Until Filled
 
 
 








NATURE OF WORK:
 
Under supervision of the Transportation Director, primary job responsibility is to maintain an accurate inventory of all parts, fuel, tires, and supplies to meet the variable demands of the transportation preventative maintenance program and the day to day parts needs for garage staff. The manager will work closely with mechanics concerning the order of non-stock parts and ensure fast moving parts stay above minimal levels.
 
 
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
  • Must have a High School diploma
  • Possess, or the ability to possess, a N.C. CDL class B with the P and S endorsements
 
 
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Automotive inventory experience
  • Experience with purchasing, labeling, and stocking  
  • Strong organizational aptitude
  • Positive communication skills with ability to speak and write clearly and concisely
  • Comprehensive background in repair parts for both diesel and gasoline engines
  • Technical background as it relates to vehicle operations and maintenance 
  • Proficient in the use Internet, Word, and Excel (preferred BSIP computer knowledge)
  • Possess, or the ability to possess, a N.C. CDL class B with the P and S endorsements
  • Ability to lift boxes of fifty (50) pounds
 
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months
 
SALARY: Salary Grade 63
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Maintains an inventory of repair parts, tires, fuel, and shop supplies to service a fleet of more than 165 vehicles.
  • Monitors parts/tires/fuel usage to ensure consumption is recorded so that realistic stock levels can be established.
  • Research, identify and locate needed vehicle parts though use of the NC Department of Transportation computer system and various manufactures repair parts manuals and web sites.
  • Identifies appropriate vendor to secure vehicle parts through the NC Department of Purchasing and Contract.
  • Verifies parts, fuel, tires, etc. received and examine all invoices for accuracy before approving and submitting the invoice to the financial secretary.
  • Maintains a log of parts ordered and received to ensure over stocking does not occur.
  • Conduct annual physical count of all inventory along with monthly inventory inspections and adjustments.
  • Communicate with vendors on a weekly of items that need to be purchased and manage purchases within budgetary parameters.
  • Manages the warranty and recall program for both school and activity buses.
  • Administer proper paperwork with other team members, 30 day inspections and preventative maintenance work orders.
  • Other duties as assigned
